Dr Simitzis graduated from the Department of Animal Science and Aquaculture of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) in 2002. After the acquisition of his Master degree in Animal Science in 2003, he started and completed his PhD thesis entitled “The effects of essential oil dietary supplementation on the feeding behavior and the quality characteristics of the products in ewes and lambs”. From 2006 till 2008, he worked in the Ministry of Rural Development and Food of the Hellenic Republic. Afterwards, he carried out his post-doctoral research in the Laboratory of Animal Breeding and Husbandry of AUA. Dr. Simitzis is a member of the Department of Animal Science in AUA since 2013; from 2013 to 2016 served as a Lecturer, from 2016 to 2023 as an Assistant Professor and then as an Associate Professor.
Research work of Dr Simitzis focuses on animal breeding and husbandry and particularly on applied animal behaviour science, animal welfare and quality characteristics of animal products (meat, milk and egg). He has published 75 articles in international journals and 10 chapters in animal science books. Furthermore, he has made 60 presentations and 20 presentations in national and international conferences, respectively. At the same time, Dr Simitzis has a significant activity in judging the suitability of scientific articles, since he serves as a reviewer or member of the editorial board in several scientific journals.
